MICRA INVITES LMRCC TO JOIN EXECUTIVE BOARD

The Mississippi Interstate Cooperative Resource Association (MICRA) was formed in 1991 and its membership now includes 28 Mississippi River Basin state conservation and natural resource agencies. The organization’s goal is the development of cooperative programs that can provide for the needs of commerce and aquatic resources on a system-wide basis. In a letter dated December 16, 1997, Chairman Marion Conover invited the Lower Mississippi River Conservation Committee (LMRCC) to become more active in MICRA activities by becoming a permanent member of its Executive Board. Other sub-basin groups, such as the Arkansas River Conservation Committee, Missouri River Natural Resources Committee, Ohio River Fish Management Team, Tennessee River Fish Management Group, and Upper Mississippi River Conservation Committee, have also been invited to join the MICRA Executive Board. MICRA proposes that an organizational structure of this nature will create a stronger, more unified voice on aquatic resource issues affecting the Mississippi River.

Since it was formed in 1994, the LMRCC has supported the goals of MICRA because of the organization’s ability to focus attention at the national level on the entire Mississippi River ecosystem. LMRCC Chairman Jerry Vineyard has invited MICRA Chairman Marion Conover and MICRA Coordinator Jerry Rasmussen to attend the 5th Annual Meeting of the LMRCC in Memphis, Tennessee on April 15 to discuss the proposed restructuring of the Executive Board.
